NETBIOAMERICAS (Networking Vertebrate Biodiversity Research and Conservation Capacity Building for Sustainable Forest Management in the Americas)

Abstract

NETBIOAMERICAS aims to:

  1. Establish a research program to formally compare processes influencing forest vertebrate biodiversity in distant ecological systems (Chile, Canada and Argentina are the nodes of the network).
  2. Promote professional scientific development through research visits and short-term internships of investigators, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (trainees) between network nodes.
  3. Generate multi-scale (local and continental) scientific publications with data from the three nodes.
  4. Host a graduate Field Course in southern Chile on “Forest Ecology and Biodiversity: Theory, Methods and Management Actions.”
  5. Organize an International Seminar in Chile on “Forest Conservation in the Americas: What do We Need to Know and Do?”
  6. Generate and distribute easy-to-use educational material for protecting critical habitat for vertebrate biodiversity in areas under forest management practices in each country.
  7. Provide a long-term loan of scientific field equipment to study forest vertebrate biodiversity from the Canada node to the Chile node (CEDEL).
